The .museum gTLD was approved in order to provide museums with the opportunity to register domain names that would brand them with a distinct identity and instill a sense of trust in Web users as to the authenticity of the museum behind each domain name. .museum domain names will afford an unequivocal forum to all museums to communicate their research findings and educate Web users of the goals of each museum.
All .museum registrations are restricted to museums and museum organizations according to the definition established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM).ed to act as the defining domain extension for all such cooperatives.
